Claude Rwaganje CFL Executive Director
Community Financial Literacy is a Leading Organization in Financial Education for Maine Refugees and New Immigrants. This is the only refugees’ organization serving his communities to improve their lives.
CFL couldn’t withhold devastating testimonies from its people who were desperate in financial literacy education. Please read some of the below testimonies from refugees needing help.
One of the Refugees person who preferred to stay anonymous contacted a CFL member and told him the following statement” I need your advisor on what I can do with my credit card, I accepted a credit card offer as a way of building my credit history, but now it has turn into a night mare. I make a minimum payment on my card every month but instead of reducing my balance it goes in the opposite direction, I believe my interest rate is 36%. Is anything you can do help me?” CFL advisor gave her/him what he thought should be an immediate action promising to follow up on the progress of resolving this issue.
Another fellow came to us with a savings question. This is what he said:” I work hard and make enough money to live with but I can’t afford to save a penny, is there anything you can do to help me?” CFL advisor again gave him a quick and sound action to take in order for him to solve this problem. First of all he asked him if he has a family budget plan in place, the answer was no, then he asked him to make an appointment to come and get some tips on how he can create a budget in order for him to control his spending. We will follow up on him in the near future to see his progress.
You could be in the same situation or a similar and need help with goal settings, family budget planning or any other financial issue, CFL is here for you.
We will be offering at a free of charge workshops, classes and one-on-one financial counseling to help new comers make sound financial decision and help them integrate in their new communities more successfully.
Please contact us by phone at 207-650-7784 or email us at cfl@newmainersavings.org .
Support our mission
Community Financial Literacy shares the same notion with other researchers that the well-being of the Nation increasingly depends on whether Immigrant’s economic progress keeps up with their demographic growth. CFL will make a difference in supporting Refugees and new Immigrants reach their dreams.
